Description

El 25 de Abril de 1974 el Movimiento de las Fuerzas Armadas (MFA) depuso al gobierno de Marcelo Caetano, quien había heredado el poder de Oliveira Salazar, quien a su vez había establecido una dictadura desde 1926 (también producto de un golpe militar). Ese día se conmemora ahora como el dia da liberdade y representa el momento en el que Portugal entró a la democracia, uno de los tres puntos del programa del MFA (Democratizar, Descolonizar, Desenvolver; en español democratizar, descolonizar, desarrollar). El movimiento es conocido también como "La revolución de los claveles". Cuenta la historia que al amanecer del 25 de Abril cuando el pueblo empezaba los festejos, una chica que llevaba las flores a un hotel le dio un clavel rojo (cravo, en portugués) a un soldado y este lo puso dentro del cañón de la escopeta. Otros soldados lo imitaron... y bueno, así se llama.

Y así acabó la dictadura más larga de Europa.
