Summary edit

Description 26-G-3698_Box 70_1: Invasion of Leyte, Philippines, 20 October 1944. Little Man, What Now? The salute was the little Filipino Lad’s own idea, when a Coast Guard Combat Photographer encountered him somewhere on liberated Leyte Island. There’s a mixture of sadness and wonder in the child’s expression; there’s pathos in the sincerity of the salute; there’s questioning in the dark eyes of this waif of war. U.S. Coast Guard photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2015/12/15).
