Description
  • Italiano: Il Battistero del Duomo di Siracusa. La fonte battesimale è opera d'epoca controversa: secondo alcuni studiosi risale infatti all'epoca ellenistica, secondo altri, invece, a quella normanna. I leoncini alla base e i mosaici cosmateschi risalgono comunque con certezza alla fase normanna dell'edificio (rispettivamente, XIII e XII secolo). Foto di Giovanni Dall'Orto, 22 maggio 2008.
  • English: The Baptistry in the Cathedral of Siracusa, Italy. The Baptismal font dates from an uncertain age: according to some scholars, from the Hellenistic age, according to others, to the Norman period. However, the small lions beneath the font, as well as the cosmatesque mosaics, surely date from the Norman period (13th and 12th century). Picture by Giovanni Dall'Orto, May 22 2008.
