| Description | Train 6747, 14:06 Niedergörne to Stendal on 27 January 1995 with 202.270 on a train of two coaches. Note the long covered platform built to cope with heavy passenger demand at various times of the day when shifts changed at nearby factories and former nuclear power station. Needless to say in DDR days, this would have been the preferred mode of travel and as such the railway was built to meet the needs of the working population. After the fall of communism, the private car became affordable for many more people and passenger loadings on trains in the former East Germany dropped dramatically. By the mid-1990s most trains were lightly loaded and so many lines survived only for a few more years. The Niedergörne branch closed to passenger traffic in 1998. |
