| Description |
English: Looking west into the tunnel of the express / termination tracks at the west end of the Brooklyn-bound platform of the Second Avenue IND 6th Avenue station, under East Houston Street and 2nd Avenue / Chrystie Street in the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Pictured is the crossover switch used for terminating trains, most recently used for V trains pre-2010. Note that the express tracks immediately merge back into the local tracks. The tracks originally continued west into Broadway–Lafayette Street as the main 6th Avenue Line express tracks. When the Chrystie Street Connection was built in the 1960s, the main express tracks were rerouted to Grand Street and the Manhattan Bridge, and the connection to these tracks was severed. |
