Rotary 3-phase convertors that use an idling induction motor produce output voltages at 180 and 270 degress, not 120 and 240 degrees.
Summary
editDescription3-phase rotary convertor voltages.png |
English: A common misconception about rotary 3-phase convertors that use an idling induction motor is that they produce output that is like conventional 3-phase power with phase voltages separated by 120 degrees. But in fact rotary 3-phase convertors produce output voltages at 180 and 270 degress, not 120 and 240 degrees. This is because two of the output legs are tied directly to the input legs and the inputs are 180 degrees apart. A more complex compensation circuit would be required to produce equal phase offsets and this is rarely (never?) done. |
