I wonder how long this olde-world bus turn round at Eastway will survive. Already the 388 and 26 routes have vacated it but the 30 and 236 keep it well occupied. One wonders how it coped previously. The 236 is also a night route. The N26 however only passes here. I like the way both routes are described by the 4 destinations as well as the symmetry. Behind was once the site of the Hackney Wick goods yard on the North London railway,now bisected by the east cross route which in turn bisects the housing development on it. An odd place. This spot may be made out in the top middle of this internet aerial photo taken c 1972. The former A102(M) "motorway" (the tunnels are not motorway standard) was completed in 1973 and cost GBP 8m (=one footballer) |
