Summary edit

Description 330-PS-1102 (USN 708092): U.S. Navy To Get New Helicopter. Here is an artist's drawing of the U.S. Navy’s latest helicopter, the tandem-rotor helicopter (the XHSL) is designed specifically for anti-submarine work and is now under construction at Bell Aircraft Corporation at their Buffalo, New York Plant. The aircraft is expected to fly this year. The new aircraft will weigh 13,000 pounds, powered with a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Engine. The U.S. Navy’s initial contract with Bell calls for construction of three experimental models of the XHSL. A U.S. Navy sponsored design competition among helicopter manufacturers which ended last June was won by Bell with this design. A smaller, single-rotor, Bell helicopter, the HTL, was used by Marines in Korea. Photograph released February 11, 1951. (6/30/2015).
