Description 330-PSA-170-63 (USN 711330): President John F. Kennedy presents a Gold Star in Lieu of a Second Distinguished Service Medal to Admiral George W. Anderson, USN, retiring Chief of Naval Operations, during a formal ceremony on the White House lawn, on July 30. The President cited Admiral Anderson for his service as an adviser during “very difficult, challenging, and sometimes dangerous years.” Secretary of the Navy Fred Korth, (center foreground), Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, (center background), General Maxwell D. Taylor, USA, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (second from right), and Mrs. Anderson (extreme right) were among the guests for the presentation, August 7, 1963. (2015/10/20).
