Description
English: 330-PS-8339 (USN 709832): One of the engineers at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C., holds in his hand a small mini-track transmitter and the battery pack which will be used in the scientific Earth satellite. The tiny transmitter, operating on a frequency of 108 megacycles, has a range of over 4,000 miles. The project is being sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Science Foundation as part of the U.S. Program for participation in the International Geophysical Year.
