Description
English: 330-PS-9208 (USN 1038548): Two Navy HSS Sikorsky Helicopters and one S2F “Tracker” Grumman aircraft from USS Valley Forge (CVS 45) circle “The Datum” (last know port of contact with a submarine) during training exercises. The Datum is marked by a smoke light which can be seen burning on the surface of the ocean. From this point, aircraft fan out to detect and keep the submarine under constant surveillance. Photograph released 23 October 1958. (10/28/2014).
