English: Major Evan Mc Call's P-51D A9-A, s/n 44-13309, 'Fools Paradise IV' of 380th FS, 363rd FG, 1944. (Constituted as the 380th Fighter Squadron (Single Engine) on 11 February 1943, Redesignated 160th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron on 25 August 1944).
Deutsch: Die North American P-51D Mustang 'A9-A' (s/n 44-13309), nickname Fools Paradise IV des Major Evan McCall, 380th Fighter Squadron, 363rd Fighter Group ca. Juni 1944 auf dem Flugplatz Azeville, Normandie, Frankreich. Die 380th FS war am 25. August 1944 in eine taktische Aufklärungsstaffel umgeformt, und in 160th TRS (Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron) umbenannt worden. Es wurden weiterhin P-51 Mustang Jagdflugzeuge, aber auch mit Kameras ausgerüstete F-6 (P-51) Mustang Foto-Aufklärer eingesetzt. Ab dem 16. April 1945 verlegte die 160th TRS auf folgende Flugplätze der ehemaligen dt. Luftwaffe im Westen und Süden Deutschlands:
  • Gütersloh, 16.04.1945;
  • Braunschweig-Waggum (heute Flughafen Braunschweig-Wolfsburg), 26.04.1945;
  • Wiesbaden-Erbenheim, 20.05.1945;
  • Eschwege (Hessen), 12.07.1945;
  • Darmstadt/Griesheim, 22.09.1945;
  • Fürth (Alter Flughafen Atzenhof bzw. Flughafen Nürnberg-Fürth), 24.11.1945;
  • Fürstenfeldbruck, 02.03.1947;
  • Bad Kissingen, 14.06.1947 – bis zur Rückverlegung in die USA auf Langley Field, Virginia, am 25.06.1947.

Am 22.11.1945 wird die 160th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron nach Giebelstadt Airfield verlegt, diese bleibt nur bis 23.11.1945 auf dem Platz, Siehe "Giebelstadt und sein Flugplatz 1945-1955", Seite 71, von Robert Popp, 1. Auflage August 2021 im Eigenverlag (keine ISBN).
Auf dem Flugplatz Giebelstadt war nur 1 Mal eine mit dem Langstreckenjäger P-51D Mustang ausgerüstete USAAF-Fighter Group stationiert, und zwar vom 29.04.1946 bis 20.08.1946 (3 Monate u. 22 Tage) die 55th Fighter Group mit ihrer 338th und 343rd Fighter Squadron. Zuvor - seit dem 22.07.1945 - war die 55th FG auf dem Fliegerhorst Kaufbeuren beheimatet. In Giebelstadt wurde die 55th FG am 20.08.1946 aufgelöst. Das Personal, der P-51-Flugzeugbestand, und das sonstige Ausrüstungsmaterial ging an die wieder aktivierte 31th Fighter Group. Diese verlegte nach der Einführung der neuen Lockheed P-80A Shooting Star am 30. September 1946 nach Kitzingen (Etwashausen), und blieb dort für rd. 9 Monate bis zu ihrer Rückverlegung in die USA nach Langley Field, Virginia am 25.06.1947.

In USAF Serial Number Search Results ist zu Major Evan Mc Call's P-51D vermerkt (ohne Namensnennung, die 44-13309 könnte auch von einem anderen Piloten geflogen worden sein): P-51D-5-NA Mustang, s/n 44-13309, (380th FS, 363rd FG, 9th AF) in landing accident at Maupertus-sur-Mer A-15, Cherbourg, Basse-Normandie, France Jul 12, 1944. Pilot survived, aircraft badly damaged, unknown if repaired. Ausserdem: s/n 44-13305 (355th FG, 354th FS, "The Hun Hunter/Texas") shot down by flak near Nördlingen, Oct 3, 1944. MACR 9261. Pilot POW.
