Three-dimensional model of the skull of dwarf sperm whale Kogia sima

Summary edit

Description

Model was created with surface scanning of the K. sima skull (collection number MNH UABCS 00/034) from the collection of marine biology department of Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), Mexico. Scanning of the collection was performed during trip within project "Integration of mammalian organism as a proxy of stability at aquatic and aerial life (as illustrated by skeleton traits)" which is financed by National Research Foundation of Ukraine. Scanning of the skull of K. sima was performed with Artec Space Spider scanner. Polygonal mesh was build in Artec Studio 15 software. Final processing of the model was performed in Blender 3.0

The uploader's scanning session was supported by the project;

  • "Integrity of the mammalian body as a factor of stability in aquatic and aerial lifestyles (on the example of skeletal features)";
  • granted by: the National Research Fund of Ukraine.
  • Scanning device applied: an Artec 3D scanner "Space Spider";
  • polygonal model produced with: a licensed software, "Artec Studio 15";
  • retouched and produced the final sequence with: a freeware image editor Blender 3D 3.0.
