| Description | LC-USZ62-43067: Half-tone image of the Navy Yard at Norfolk, Virginia. The Norfolk Navy Yard is one of the best in the United States. It is provided with all the usual furniture of a navy yard – ship houses; store houses; foundries; etc., and has, besides, a granite dock which cost a million of dollars. At this navy yard, is anchored, as receiving ship, USS Pennsylvania, the largest line-of-battleship in the world. She is shown in the fore-ground of the picture. Harper’s Weekly, March 16, 1861.
