English: LMS Class 5 steam locomotive 45493 hauling a train on the West Coast Main Line past Stretton Stop on the Oxford Canal north of Brinklow, Warwickshire. Stretton Stop is a narrow section of canal just out of shot to the left at the start of the Oxford Canal short-cut which bypasses a loop of the original contour canal. The loop continues ahead under the bridge. Part of the loop was retained as a feed from a reservoir. It was later used also for moorings. Maid Line Cruisers then ran a boat hire base from premises behind the viewpoint. Electrification of this part of the West Coast main line has just started, but the wires visible are telegraph and telephone wires. |
