Summary edit

Description
English: Badami in Karnataka, also mentioned as Vatapi, Vatapipura and Vatapinagari in historical texts, was an important ancient and early medieval era capital. It is the site of the earliest Hindu cave temples in South India whose date can be established with certainty. In addition the site has many groups of structural temples around the lake, on the cliffs (Shivalayas) and inside the town.
  • The Bhutanatha main group (700–725 CE) is the older set of Hindu shrines to the east of the Agastya Teertha. The oldest temple in this group is the main large temple.
  • The Northern Bhutanatha group was built in 11th to 12th century, is close to this eastern group of temples.
  • Above is a view of the Bhutanatha main group.
