Summary

Description 80-G-13286: Life rafts for the U.S. Navy in production in a Goodyear Factory, Akron, Ohio, early 1942. These boats, when deflated, fold into a small package and may be quickly inflated for use by tripping the valve of a carbon dioxide cylinder which contains sufficient gas to inflate best for use. In background, are several floatation bags which are placed in airplane wings, in deflated condition and can be quickly inflated to keep planes afloat if forced down on water. U.S. Navy photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2017/03/07).
