Description 80-G-43500: Lieutenant Commander Joseph Hunt Bourland, USN. Bourland received the Silver Star for his actions while serving as Assistant Approach officer onboard USS Runner (SS 275) when the submarine sank three Japanese freighters totaling 19,815 tons and further damaging two ships, totaling 14,189. Photograph received November 1, 1943. (8/18/2015).
