The ML2 course, is regarded as one of the most arduous and toughest courses in the British military. The course is 8 ½ months long and covers elements including Vertical assault/climbing, Surveillance and reconnaissance (ISTAR Patrol leader, inc survival), Advanced Mountain movement and becoming a Mountain and Cold Weather Warfare instructor. 845 NAS deploy to Op CLOCKWORK (OP CLWK) every year to train and test their people and equipment to operate in the harsh arctic winter conditions, in particular for the aircrew to gain/refresh their Environmental Flying Qualifications (EQ). During this busy time, 845 NAS will also be involved with other training such this. Op CLWK (Formally Exercise CLOCKWORK) has been running at Bardufoss for over 50 years and delivers Environmental Flying Qualifications, Cold Weather Survival, Tent Group Commanders and Snow and Ice driving courses to ensure that the personnel of the Joint Helicopter Command (JHC) are trained to operate in the harshest of environments.
