Towboat "Steel Clipper" (doc. # 507944) downbound, approaching Clay Wade Bailey Bridge (US Highway 42).

Ohio River mile 471. Cincinnati, Ohio. Nov. 1987. File # 87k047. . "Steel Clipper" was built in 1967 by Dravo Corp. at Neville Island, Pa. It was owned by Ohio Barge Line, Dravosburg, Pa., until 1984, when it was sold to Ingram Barge Co., Nashville, Tenn. In 1996, the boat was renamed "Thomas R. Vorholt". In 2010, it was renamed "James Paul Ayers". . The Clay Wade Bailey Bridge (named after a Kentucky newspaperman who covered the Capitol beat) was completed in 1974. It was built on the piers of the original Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Bridge, which was completed in 1888 and demolished in 1968. Note that the present-day C&O Railroad Bridge (completed in 1929) was built on the same piers, so two separate superstructures share one set of piers. The C&O Bridge is just downstream from the Bailey Bridge. The C&O Bridge has the taller superstructure of the two. . 35 mm Kodachrome. Plustek OpticFilm 7600i and Silverfast 8. Picture Window 6.
