English: Looking down from Clark Bridge.
Towboats "Robin" (doc. # unknown, at left) and "Emma V" (doc. # 266269, at right) downbound. Ohio River mile 604. Louisville, Kentucky. Dec. 1987. File # 87l012. . The smaller boat on the right, originally named "J. W. Rose", was built in 1953 by St. Louis Shipbuilding & Steel Co., St. Louis, Mo. It was rebuilt in 1961 with a retractable pilothouse by Material Service Corp., Lockport, Illinois. [This explains the short stacks, which allowed the boat to clear low bridges when the pilothouse was lowered. By the time of this photo, the pilothouse was no longer retractable.] The boat was renamed "Kristina H" in 1964, "Emma V" in 1966, "Crystal King" in 1988, and "Midwest" (retractable again) in 1993. By 2003, the boat was out of service. In 2007, the boat was repowered and rebuilt as a conventional (non-retractable) towboat by Amherst Industries, Henderson, W.Va. In 2007, the boat was renamed "Marlie Price". As of early 2013, the boat was owned by Amherst Madison (formerly Madison Coal and Supply), Charleston, W. Va. . 35 mm Kodachrome.
