Towboat Annie's restaurant, formerly towboat "Gregory J", or "Gregory Jay" (doc. # 259375), tied off after arriving sometime in Jan. 1988. JFK Bridge at left. Ohio River mile 603. Jeffersonville, Indiana. January 1988. File # 88a022. . Diesel towboat, with steel hull and twin props. The hull was built at Ambridge, PA by American Bridge Co. and the rest was completed by the owner, in 1950. It was 140 x 25 x 10.1 [ more likely 103 x 25.1 x 9.8, as listed in Coast Guard documentation ] and powered by GM 12-567 diesels with a total of 1800 hp. (Those were placed in 1955). It was owned by Warrior & Gulf Navigation Co., of Chickasaw, AL, and was originally named "Choctaw". In 1971 it was sold to Gulf-Canal Lines, Inc. of Houston and renamed Port of Houston. In 1978 Hollinger Transportation of Greensville, MS bought the boat and resold it to Bel-Mon Towing Co., of Powhattan Point, OH, who renamed it the "Gregory Jay". Sometime after 1978, Ron Grimm bought it (Golden Triangle River Contract & Towing Co., Ltd., of McKees Rocks, PA). Ron sold it in 1983 to G & C Towing of Point Pleasant, WV. The "Gregory Jay" burned in Pittsburgh in 1984, and was sold to River Valley Cruises of South Point, OH. It was converted to a restaurant boat, renamed Towboat Annie's, and berthed in Jeffersonville, Indiana [in early 1988], then later in Louisville, Kentucky. [from Michael A. Grimm's genealogy blog]. . In 2002, the restaurant was renamed "Port O' Call," but I don't recall if it ever opened under that name. I think the boat left Louisville soon after that, perhaps in 2003.. .. In 2010, it was cut up for scrap at the foot of the I-470 bridge across from Wheeling WV..
