Description
English: Portland Canal at L&I Bridge:

"Mama Lere" (doc. # 264863) upbound.

Twin screw towboat "Mama Lere" (doc. # 264863, length 132 feet, width 30 feet, GM 16-645C diesels, 3800 hp.). Built in 1953 by Nashville Bridge Co., Nashville, Tennessee. I think the boat was named for Valere Blair Potter, who was called Mama Lere by her children and grandchildren. She was the wife of Justin Potter, founder of the Nashville Coal Co. Originally owned by Nashville Coal, Paducah, Kentucky. In 1965, sold to Chemical Towing Service, Memphis, Tennessee. In 1967, sold to Valley Towing Service, Memphis. In 1983, sold to Triangle Marine, Greenville, Mississippi. In 1994, sold to Northstar Navigation, Paducah. In 2004, sold to Millenium Trading Corp., Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Coast Guard vessel documentation site shows 2004 as the year of the boat's most recent documentation and lists the boat's name as "PB 131".
