English: A Douglas A-1H Skyraider (BuNo 134563) of U.S. Navy attack squadron VA-152 Friendlies after a wheels-up emergency landing at Da Nang, South Vietnam, in December 1965. VA-152 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 16 (CVW-16) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CVA-34) for a deployment to Vietnam from 5 April to 16 December 1965. The foam visible was used to ensure a relatively smooth wheels-up landing. The aircraft with a tail hook also used an arresting cable, so that the damaged aircraft would slide to a quick halt. |
