Description
Español: Corazón de Midlothian.

Se encuentra frente a la catedral de Saint Giles (s. XII) en Edimburgo (Escocia). Es un mosaico realizado en el empedrado exterior de la catedral y pretende recordar donde se situó la puerta de la antigua prisión de Edimburgo en el siglo XV y demolida en 1817. Ya por entonces los ciudadanos al pasar por dicha puerta escupían en señal de reprobación debido a las calamidades que sufrían los presos por parte de los gestores de la cárcel. Hoy el corazón recuerda aquel sitio inhumano y es el único lugar de Edimburgo donde está permitido esputar en la vía pública.

Fue además inmortalizada por Sir Walter Scott en su obra titulada precisamente The Heart of Midlothian y dio nombre a uno de los equipos de la ciudad, el Heart of Midlothian FC, cuyo escudo es dicho mosaico-corazón.
