Summary edit

Description
English: A55 west of Pen-y-Clip tunnel. Tunnels carry the A55 main North Wales Coast road round the formidable headland of Pen-y-Clip just to the west of Penmaenmawr. Formerly the carriageway in the photo carried traffic in both directions. In 1993, another, longer, tunnel was constructed just to the south to carry the westbound traffic, leaving the old road (seen here) to carry eastbound traffic only. Pedestrians wishing to walk between the neighbouring settlements of Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr must use this narrow footway (not protected by barriers the whole way). A separate cycle route involves two crossings of the westbound carriageway and is almost universally ignored by cyclists, who are much more likely to use this footway. The headland of Penmaenbach, another formidable obstacle to road construction, can be seen in the middle distance. On the left in the distance is the southern end of the Great Orme at Llandudno.
