Summary edit

Description
English: Ferrite core memories were used from 1950 to 1975. They retain information without power supply. They required 3 wires per toroid: reading, writing, erasing.

Very high price: $2 per byte in 1970. Good robustness to radiations: used in Space Shuttle Challenger.

The development of miniaturized semiconductor memories in high integration circuits has enabled the miniaturization and cost reduction of computer equipments.
