| Description | Reloading a musket is a laborious procedure. The person firing the weapon must first pour a measured quantity of gunpowder down the barrel of the gun, followed by a piece of cloth wadding, and finally the bullet. Then the gunpowder, wadding, and bullet must be packed tightly together by pushing a long blunt-ended rod called a ramrod down the barrel. Before firing, the weapon has to be primed by pouring a small amount of gunpowder in the flash pan. Despite the complexity of the reloading, a well-drilled soldier in the 18th century could shoot three to four rounds per minute. The powder pouch is decorated according to the user’s wish. - MALTA |
