In 1974 two of my brothers - who were both motor mechanics at the time - were restoring a much neglected and abused 1967 Renault 4 van (known as a Fourgon in the UK). Once it was again roadworthy I bought it from them, as my first car. Over the next two years I had many adventures with it and still look back on it with affection. As can just be seen from the photo there was plenty of space in the engine compartment to work on the 36 horsepower 845cc engine and 3-speed gearbox. Modern cars are much, much more difficult to work on! |
