Summary edit
DescriptionA Black Mouth of the Hidatsa.png |
English: A member of the Black Mouth Society of the Hidatsa. The age society was made up of older, respected men. It directed the common village hunts on the plains and served also as a sort of village police. The Black Mouths were regarded as the protectors of the people and should be the first to meet any aggressors. The name of the society hinted to the way the members painted the face. Here the man enforces a clean-up of the opens places in the village by the women.
