Summary
editDescriptionA Cairn between Sumba and Víkarbyrgi in Suðuroy, Faroe Islands.JPG |
English: View from the mountain Spáafelli which is between Sumba and Víkarbyrgi in Suðuroy, Faroe Islands. In the foreground there is a cairn ("varði" in Faroese, a pile of stones, which people used to find their way, especially when it was foggy weather). There are several cairns on this path, which was the only "road" in the old days, before the road for cars was made. The Faroese word for these paths is Varðagøta in singular and Varðagøtur in plural. Sometimes there are arranged hiking trips along these cairn-paths in Suðuroy and in other places in the Faroe Islands. Many of these cairns are still in good shape. The view is towards north. The small island in the background is Lítla Dímun, which is the smallest of the islands of the Faroe Islands. A part of Stóra Dímun is also visible to the left of Lítla Dímun. Froðbiarnípa is also visible as well as the mountain Kambur above Porkeri and Siglifelli between Akrar and Víkarbyrgi.
Føroyskt: Ein varði á fjallinum Spóafelli við Oyrnaskarð á varðagøtuni millum Sumba og Víkarbyrgi. Lítla Dímun sæst longuri burturi. |
