Description
English: Hindu temples and monasteries served a key role in developing and supporting the studies and knowledge of arts, crafts, music and dance theatre. The folio leaf above is from a secondary Sanskrit commentary (bhasya) on a primary text Kulaśekhara's Tapatīsaṃvaraṇa, also in Sanskrit. The script is Malayalam. This text and related literature are important Kutiyattam, a form of Indian classical dance theatre in Kerala.

A digital version of this text has been archived by the British Library with the assistance of École française d’Extrême-Orient. The original is preserved in Kerala, at Vadakke Madham Brahmaswam – a Vedic studies center.

This is a photo of a 2-D manuscript artwork originally copied between 1700-1850 CE, of 11th-century text. Therefore Wikimedia Commons PD-Art licensing guidelines apply. Any rights I have as a photographer is herewith donated to wikimedia commons under CC0 license.
