Summary edit

Description
English: A circular walk from Redmile, (23) Growing along the canal bank this is Silverweed (Potentilla anserina).

The ability of this plant to survive trampling, coupled with the soft texture of the leaves led to them being stuffed into shoes to relieve and cool the sore feet of travellers, hence the alternative common names of ‘traveller’s ease’ and ‘traveller’s joy’. The deeply divided leaves are coated in a silky, silvery sheen of downy hairs, referred to by the common name ‘silverweed’. The yellow flowers have five petals and are produced singly on the tips of long stalks. It is a member of the Rose family.

To follow this walk of about 6 miles along the canal and public footpaths, park in the village of Redmile somewhere near the Peacock Inn and walk north west out of the village to the bridge where you can gain access to the tow path. Photographs taken along the length of the walk are collected here: https://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=2770823
