English: This photo shows officers launching a third party reporting centre at a Chinese Society in Birmingham.
Police are working with members of British Chinese Community to make the reporting of hate crime easier. Anybody wishing to report race, hate or disability crime now has the option of visiting a new 'third party reporting centre' based at the Birmingham Chinese Society in Allcock Street, Digbeth. The reporting centre, officially opened on Tuesday (24 April), allows victims of hate crime to speak to trained staff who they know and trust, in an environment that they comfortable. Victims will receive advice at the centre and be given a number of options on how to make a formal complaint. This can include making a mutual appointment to see a police officer at a time and place that suits them. Alternatively, victims can choose to complete a form with staff at the centre or be given access to systems allowing them to report incidents online. To promote the launch of the initiative, officers from the Digbeth neighbourhood policing team introduced themselves to more than 30 members of the Chinese community over lunch. |
