| Description |
English: The main train lines around Durgapur were electrified as early as 1965, though several steam trains could be seen around the town for a couple of years later. It was therefore a surprise to see a narrow gauge (2'6" gauge, which Durgapur never saw) locomotive plinthed outside the station.This is (non standard) locomotive class CC, number 670, christened "Indrani" and is plinthed within a beautifully maintained garden outside Durgapur Station in east India. Built 1907, the locomotive was rebuilt 1940 and saw service on Bankura Damodar Valley Railway. The engine had a maximum speed of 32kmph and was withdrawn from service circa 1996. (May 2009) |
