The others are the ductusarteriosus, connecting the aorta and the pulmonary artery; theductus venosus, connecting the umbilical vein and the ascendingvena cava; and the two hypogastric arteries, springing fromthe internal iliacs and passing out of the abdomen, through thenavel, into the cord, where they become the umbilical arteries. Keeping in mind the course of the blood-current after birth,when these fetal structures have ceased to exist as blood-passages,we can trace the fetal circulation from the placenta, where it isoxygenated before birth, back to its starting-point (Fig. 29).
