Percussion Instrument from Goa
Summary
editDescriptionA person playing Shamel - Percussion Instrument from Goa.jpg |
English: The Shamel is a traditional percussion instrument from Goa. It's made carefully, using slender cane or bamboo sticks from the sturdy "beth tree." Covered in goat skin, the instrument has a vase shape and sits on a carved base made from 'Khair' wood. With instruments like the Ghumat and Kasale playing along, a group of devotees comes together to perform Aarti.
