Summary edit

Description Kumbh Mela is a Hindu gathering every 12 years at Makar Sankranti, marked by bathing in sacred rivers. It is observed at four locations, each location cycling to another every 4 years, returning to each location every 12 years. The 12 year Prayaga Sangam at Ganga-Yamuna rivers is the world's largest pilgrimage gathering. Also called Magha Mela, it is traceable to a 2,000 year old tradition, mentioned in the Mahabharata.
