Such a Report would probably prove morethan half the labour of the whole operation. Should the Council think that T could beadvantageously employed in conducting such aninvestigation, my services, as you well know, areat their command. Accompanied by a secondofficer of the Ordnance, and a steady sergeant ofArtillery, I should feel little doubt either of put-ting the question, as regards Spitzbergen, at restfor ever, by proving the impracticability of theoperation, or of furnishing such a report as I havedescribed, whereby its completion, if it were ex-pedient to be pursued, could be looked forward towith certainty.
