editDescriptionAakash Bhairav Indrachowk Kathmandu Nepal Rajesh Dhungana.jpg |
English: Akash Bhairav's temple located at Indra Chowk, a busy place in Kathmandu. These Bhairavs are called Akash Bhairavs because their eyes are fixed on the sky and the horizon. These Bhairavs are taken out during the Indrajatra festival. There are various deities around the Bhairav site in the temple.
This huge idol of Bhairav made of metal is associated with the incident of Kiranti king Yalambar going to see the battle of Mahabharata. This king Yalambar is considered to be the incarnation of Shivaji. The idol of Bhairav is very beautiful. Devotees are not allowed to touch the idol. Arrangements have been made to worship from a distance. For Hindus, these Bhairavs are the main deities. |
