Author Während der Grenzbesetzung 1809, die wegen der nationalen Erhebungen gegen Napoleon einberufen wurde, liess Oberst Hans Conrad Finsler durch Ingenieur Johannes Feer und einige Stabsoffiziere die östliche Schweiz triangulieren. Der Astronom Johann Kaspar Horner und Stabshauptmann Heinrich Pestalozzi verbanden das entstandene Dreiecksnetz mit den Vermessungen der Kantone Basel und Bern.
