Summary

edit
Description This is a very typical style of house that you often find in villages in the Canary Islands, having a row of doors - this one has four - that open onto the street. Many of these have been converted into shops and, I am sure that, in olden times, many will have been warehouse stores. You can imagine the busy comings and goings of local commerce below and the living quarters above. This example, long since abandoned, is in Susanna Street, along the bottom of the village of El Palmar, not far from the square with its small church. There is quite a lot of work going on in that area currently and some brand new houses have been built across the street from this old area - it previously had an open view down the valley. One or two buildings that were in really advanced states of ruin have since been demolished, but the majority are showing signs of refurbishment. Who knows what the fate of this one will be, but I rather hope it will be saved.
