Summary
editDescriptionAbbotsford House - geograph.org.uk - 1243393.jpg |
English: Abbotsford House View is of the rear of the house from across the River Tweed.
Sir Walter Scott bought the farm of Clartyhole in 1811 and changed its name to the more romantic Abbotsford. Over the years he set about many additions and alterations to the old farmhouse creating the fine mansion in Scottish Baronial style which we see today. He lived here until his death in 1832 and it is now preserved as a museum in his memory open to the public and housing many treasures and artifacts that Sir Walter had collected. |
