editDescriptionAberdovey Station just before conversion - geograph.org.uk - 1066518.jpg |
English: Aberdovey Station just before conversion. Arguably the most, and possibly only, elegant of the Aberystwyth & Welsh Coast Railway's stations, it had until 1907 served the terminus at Pwllheli. When the terminus was moved and a new larger station built, the building was dismantled and rebuilt on this site, replacing the very dilapidated shack which stood here.
When the picture was taken in August 1982, it had just been sold for conversion into holiday flats; the interior had been gutted, and on this particular day the owner was using the shell to house a local summer fête. The building had not been actively used as a station for some years, being replaced by a "bus shelter" type of accommodation seen in the distance, and at some point the station awning was reduced as seen here. During conversion the awning was removed completely, and the components reused by the Bala Lake Railway; see 893916. |
