Description
English: Aberdulais Basin Tonna. The junction of the Neath and Tennant canal at Tonna. The Tennant Canal is 8.5 miles long making it the longest privately built canal in Britain.The canals were built to transport raw materials and manufactured goods of the Neath valley's earliest industries and mines. Cargoes included timber, coal, lime, finished iron, cannon balls from the furnaces at Hirwaun and gunpowder from Glynneath.
