Summary
editDescriptionAbutments of old railway bridge, Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal - geograph.org.uk - 757795.jpg |
English: Abutments of old railway bridge, Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal. See 757793. This is looking northwards towards the same abutments. Behind is seen the girder bridge carrying Spring Lane. There is some confusion over nomenclature of the two former rail bridges and the lane bridge very close together here. I have encountered the name 'Whittaker Bridge' used for each of the three. I suggest, however, that it is the still-existing bridge carrying Spring Lane that is the 'real' Whittaker Bridge - after all, it did precede in time the railway bridges. |
