Summary edit
DescriptionAchemenid Siglos (5385122907).jpg |
Achemenid Era silver siglos showing a bearded melophore-dressed warrior-king kneeling on his right knee, holding an elbow and a lance. Reverse side shows just a formless depression. This coin was alledgedly made in Sardes, capital of Lydia, a greek Satrapy of the Achemenid empire (Lydia was on the territory of the actual Turkey), between 500 and 450 BCE, so, during or soon after the reign of Darius Ist the Great. As the crown cannot be seen correctly and no inscription is seen, the king can't be identified with certainty. Personal collection coin scanned in January 2011. |
