Description
English: Acorn Park in Silver Spring, Maryland was the location of a mica-flecked spring from which the community receives its name. The spring was discovered by Washington D.C. newspaper publisher Francis Preston Blair in 1842 and he built his summer house nearby. His two sons, James Blair and Montgomery Blair followed the suit. James Blair's house survived and is preserved in the city as Jesup Blair House. The acorn-shaped pavilion was a typical lawn ornament in the early to mid 19th century. It is believed to have been on the Blair estate and was restored in 1997. (Information from a sign near the pavilion.)
