Title
Acorn shaped strap fitting.
Description
English: A post medieval copper alloy acorn shaped strap fitting dating to c AD 1600-1700. The strap fitting is in the shape of an acorn. The lower half of the strap fitting is semi-circular in plan and is cross hatched to create the acorn 'cup'. Above the 'cup' the top is oval in plan and slightly narrower than the 'cup'. At the top, there is a small knop. The strap fitting curves convexly. The back of the strap fitting is hollowed to match the front and there is evidence of two incomplete lugs which appear to have a square raised section beneath. The square raised section round the lug at the bottom of the acorn appears to be truncated suggesting that there may have been a stem at the bottom of the acorn. The patina is mid green and there is evidence of gilding. The strap fitting weighs 4.1g and measures 24.93mm in length, 17.09mm in width and 3.65mm in height.
