L'incarico di portare a compimento un simile progetto viene affidato, nel 1561, all'architetto fiorentino Guidetto Guidetti, al quale succede, dopo la morte di questi tre anni dopo, il milanese Giovan Domenico Bianchi che da questo momento entra a completo servizio della famiglia. La costruzione del palazzo, iniziata sotto il cardinal Federico, termina verosimilmente intorno all'anno 1579, quando Federico Cesi nipote di Gian Giacomo e padre del futuro fondatore dell'Accademia dei Lincei sposa Olimpia Orsini. L'anno successivo Isabella d'Alviano, sopravvissuta al marito e al figlio, fa restaurare le mura cittadine e alcune strade, oltre a incaricare Bianchi di sistemare la piazza antistante il palazzo. Tra le sue mura, nei primi mesi del 1604, Federico si ritira sconfortato e deluso dall'atteggiamento del padre, intollerante e assai poco comprensivo nei confronti delle attività dell'Accademia dei Lincei fondata alcuni mesi prima, il 17 agosto 1603, dal giovane Federico insieme ad altri tre fraterni amici. |
